Nepali soldiers deployed in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon have been attacked. A provocative mob attacked a vehicle carrying Nepali Army Lieutenant Colonel Chowk Bahadur Dhakal and other security personnel. Two peacekeepers, including Lieutenant Colonel Dhakal, were injured in the incident on the Nepal side. The injured Dhakal has been admitted to the UN Level 3 Hospital. According to the doctor, Dhakal’s health is now out of danger. He was on his way back home after completing his term.
The United Nations has condemned the attack on peacekeepers and called for an immediate investigation into the incident and necessary action. The Lebanese army has arrested more than 25 people in connection with the incident. According to the Nepali Army, the Lebanese Prime Minister has promised to arrest the culprits as soon as possible and bring them to justice.
